Ever since 9/11, the ACLU of Maryland has partnered with the national ACLU to combat head-on the misconception that there is a dichotomy between security and liberty. We believe in protecting the rule of law, fundamental privacy protections and our system of checks and balances. Our work has included a public records request that uncovered illegal government spying on peaceful activists, a campaign against unlawful provisions of the Patriot Act, and opposition to state efforts to authorize tracking technologies used by law enforcement without warrants.
