Karen is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW-C) with extensive experience in higher education, mental health and disability. She has worked in a variety of settings including hospitals, family service agencies, private practice, Baltimore County Public Schools, Towson University and the University of Maryland School of Social Work. The second half of her career focused on higher education. Within that setting, Karen was passionate about ensuring equal access to all students with disabilities, students who speak English as a second language, students in the LGBTQ community, first-generation college students and all students who identified as members of marginalized communities while in college and graduate school. While at Towson University, she served as the Associate Director of Disability Support Services. Most recently, Karen served as the Associate Dean for Student Affairs at the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Now recently retired, Karen is looking forward to lending her skills and interests as a volunteer to ACLU Maryland.
