Over $60,000 per school, critical teacher positions and programs at-risk for Baltimore City
Baltimore, MD - This Monday, city leaders and the Baltimore Education Coalition will stand unified at Barclay Elementary School to call upon Gov. Larry Hogan to release $68 million in GCEI education funding to Maryland school districts - Baltimore City Public Schools would receive $11.6 million. Under the leadership of Del. Maggie McIntosh, chair of the House Appropriations Committee, the Maryland General Assembly in a bipartisan fashion set aside money in the budget during the session to restore more than 90% of Gov. Hogan's $144 million in cuts to education. However, Gov. Hogan has refused to release GCEI funding.
Baltimore City Public Schools has received GCEI funding since 2009. If this funding is not released, city schools will get less funding and principals will be forced to cut teachers, critical programs, and student services.
