BALTIMORE, MD - The following is a statement from Dana Vickers Shelley, Executive Director for the American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland (ACLU-MD), regarding the Kirwan legislation.

"The question we are focused on as we review the Kirwan bill is: Does it adequately address race and wealth inequity in Maryland? The legislation must intentionally correct generations of state disinvestment from the education of children in Baltimore City and other areas with low wealth. Maryland needs to make it right and fulfill the state’s constitutional duty to provide a quality education to every student."
