BALTIMORE COUNTY - On October 31, 2025, Baltimore County government quietly entered into an agreement with the Department of Justice and Homeland Security to be removed from the DOJ’s “Sanctuary Jurisdiction” list, undermining community trust and transparency. People who believe in democracy don’t secretly collaborate with authoritarians; they stand up for constitutional rights and transparency.

Public safety is not strengthened when local governments entangle themselves with federal immigration enforcement, it’s weakened. Facilitating ICE detentions and deportations of persons released pending trial means that offenders cannot be punished. And holding people for ICE to pick up when a judge or jury has ordered their release violates the law. We’ve submitted a public records request to understand what this agreement entails, and we are calling on the County to release all related information and policies immediately so the public can see what’s really at stake.
