Valerie Twanmoh comes to the ACLU Maryland Board after decades of experience as a trial attorney, as staff for Senator Barbara Mikulski, and as an advocate and activist in the non-profit sector. She represented clients who were victims of sexual harassment and employment discrimination and, as the Senior Advisor for Advocacy and Policy at Catholic Charities, advocated for people experiencing homelessness, people with developmental disabilities, low-income seniors, families struggling to escape poverty, and others in need of social services. For over 9 years, she served as the director of the Esperanza Center, a program of Catholic Charities that offers comprehensive legal, health, and other services to members of the immigrant community.
Val lives in Baltimore County with her husband, Joe, many horses, a cat and a dog and enjoys traveling to see her children and grand kids whenever possible.
