The People's Town Hall: Continued Fight on Policing in Baltimore and the State of Maryland

August 6, 2020 @ 6:15 pm
August 7, 2020 @ 7:45 pm

Join the ACLU of Maryland, CASA, Jews United for Justice – Baltimore, NAACP LDF, Citizens Policing Project, other members of the Campaign for Justice, Safety & Jobs, and community members from all around Baltimore City to delve into a CommUNITY-centered conversation on:

  • The current national uprising launched by the murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and our very own uprising in Baltimore City, just five years after the killing of Freddie Gray;
  • The importance of Local Control of Baltimore City's Police Department;
  • Repealing the Law Enforcement Officers Bill of Rights (LEOBR) and the current Consent Decree to reform the Baltimore City Police Department.

The People’s Town Hall will be facilitated and implemented by community, in community, as we have done for past events, this time through a virtual zoom platform (details provided on the Facebook event page). At the end of the event, there will be an opportunity to participate in four different 30-minute breakout/working sessions so we can organize our next steps.

Your voice is critical to this work. We hope you'll join us!

More about Campaign for Justice, Safety & Jobs:

If you are not familiar with CJSJ, it is a diverse group of community, faith, civil rights, youth, and community leaders and organizations who have come together to raise our voices in a call for Justice, Safety, and Jobs. The group convened in April of 2015 in the wake of Freddie Gray’s killing, around the issues that were unearthed in Gray’s death and the subsequent uprising throughout the city. To date, the campaign includes over 30 powerful organizations representing thousands of Baltimoreans, including a diverse combination of local grassroots youth organizations, policy advocates, faith institutions, and labor unions.
