"Today, the ACLU applauds President Barack Obama for visiting the Islamic Society of Baltimore. The President joins a great many leaders from Maryland who have spoken out against bigotry and fear mongering against Muslims. We hope that the President's message of inclusion and respect will be heard by Governor Larry Hogan, who disgracefully called for the federal government to bar Syrian refugees from Maryland.
In our America, freedom from racial profiling, religious discrimination, and discrimination based on national origin are at the heart of the values our constitution protects. The ACLU agrees with the President's belief that our state and nation are strengthened when we recognize our common humanity."
