New Judge in Baltimore Police Victim Gag Order Case Suggests Reconsideration of Dismissed Plaintiff

The following may be attributed to Deborah Jeon, Legal Director for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Maryland:

"We are heartened that Judge Garbis has created this renewed opportunity for the ACLU to fight for the First Amendment rights of Ashley Overbey and the Baltimore Brew. This challenge to Baltimore City's gag orders on victims of police misconduct is a groundbreaking case at the intersection of free speech and civil rights. It should be considered in the context of the larger, ongoing struggle across the country to confront  systemic police misconduct and demand real police accountability.  That is why we believe it matters so much that the case is now being given a full hearing on all claims raised by both plaintiffs, rather than considered piecemeal, or given only cursory review."
