In response to months of public opposition, the Wicomico County Executive and Sheriff abandoned their increasingly unpopular proposal to enter a 287(g) agreement with ICE.

Baltimore County signed an agreement that requires jail officials to tell federal immigration agents when anyone in custody has an ICE warrant, even if that person is about to be released, found not guilty, or has had their charges dropped.

If Wicomico County were to enter into such an agreement, the County and its taxpayers would bear the financial, economic, and social costs of a program designed to scapegoat immigrants for political gain.

Rather than ensuring fair and equal representation, Bill 55-25 egregiously packs Black voters into just two districts while preserving seven solidly white-majority districts—a textbook example of racial gerrymandering designed to dilute Black political power.

The coalition is calling on the Commission to adopt a legally compliant and community-driven “3-1-5” map that ensures fair representation for Black and Brown residents across the county.
