Reimagining School Safety: Listening Session & State Legislative Preview

December 9, 2020 @ 6:30 pm
December 10, 2020 @ 7:45 pm

Join us at this town hall on the harmful impacts of police presence in schools and state-level legislative solutions. This event is cohosted by the Maryland Coalition to Reform School Discipline and the Maryland Coalition on Justice and Police Accountability.

About the Event:

Does police presence in schools make students more safe – or less? Come hear from impacted students, parents, and advocates about how regular police presence in Maryland schools needlessly criminalizes students while failing to meaningfully improve security. Special guests Delegates Gabriel Acevero and Jheanelle Wilkins will join us to announce groundbreaking legislation for the 2021 General Assembly session to reimagine school safety – by shifting away from the school police model and investing instead in student mental health services, wraparound supports and restorative approaches.
