The ACLU of Maryland Education Reform Project is excited by the proposed changes to state discipline regulations put forth by the Maryland State Board of Education.  These new regulations would require school systems to eliminate zero tolerance policies that do not allow administrators to use discretion and common sense when determining the appropriate response to student behavior. Additionally, the regulations would establish a reporting requirement that would focus on the disparate impact of suspensions and expulsions on minority and special education children across the state.  Click here to read our letter of support!
